Referred by your financial advisor? You're in the right place.

Household Ledger — professional bookkeeping for your personal finances.

Know exactly where your money goes — without doing the work yourself. We set up Monarch Money, categorize your history, and hand you a clear picture of your household finances, reviewed by a real bookkeeper.

Why this exists

You shouldn’t need a spreadsheet habit to know where your money goes.

Most people don't have a spending problem — they have a visibility problem. Budgeting apps promise clarity, then hand you the work: fixing miscategorized transactions, untangling transfers, remembering what that $84 charge was.

Household Ledger is what happens when actual bookkeepers take that work off your plate. The same rigor we bring to business books, applied to your household.

Professional rigor, family-level care — for your home.

How it works

1. Book a short call. Fifteen minutes on Zoom. We confirm fit, answer your questions, and get you scheduled for setup.

2. We set it up together. One screen share, about forty-five minutes. You connect your accounts yourself — your passwords go directly to your bank and never to us — and we make sure nothing gets missed, including the things no app can connect to. Most people finish in one sitting.

3. We do the work. We categorize your history and send you one short email about the transactions that need your input. Reply when it's convenient — it usually takes about five minutes.

4. You get a picture that makes sense. Within a week of your answers: your cash flow, your net worth, and a short note from us on what stood out.

What you get

  • Every transaction reviewed and categorized by a professional bookkeeper — not left to an algorithm's best guess

  • A monthly cash flow statement and net worth summary, plus notes from your bookkeeper on anything worth knowing — where the money comes from, where it goes, and what's behind the numbers that look unusual

  • A setup session, then one short email with our questions — that's the whole job on your end.

  • Statements your advisor can actually use at planning time

  • With every delivery: how many transactions we reviewed, how many we corrected, and how many accounts we added that no automated connection could reach

What it costs

One-time setup — $500

Businesses pay us hundreds or thousands a month to track cash flow at this level of detail. This is the same work, scoped to a household and done once: we build your Monarch Money profile (the subscription is covered as part of setup), connect and organize your accounts, categorize your recent history, and deliver your first full statement package. You end up with something most households have never had — a clean, categorized picture of where the money actually goes.

Referred by your financial advisor? Mention them when you book — we’ll keep them in the loop (with your permission) so your statements feed straight into your planning conversation.

The family behind Household Ledger

When I was nine, I told my dad I was done being treated like a child. He handed me the household budget for a month — rent, utilities, groceries, all of it — and told me to prove it with records. It was meant to teach me a lesson. I balanced it, and I've been doing this ever since.

My accounting professor told us that passing his course wasn't enough — you had to get everything right, extra credit included, because that's the heart of accounting. I got 100% in every accounting class I took. Now Joelle and I are raising three boys, and this is the work we want them to see us doing.

Every statement that leaves our desk is reviewed by one of us. No algorithm gets the last word.

We work with your advisor — not instead of them.

Household Ledger is bookkeeping. Your advisor guides the plan; we make sure the numbers underneath it are clean, current, and clear.

We don't sell investments and we don't give financial advice. If you'd like, we'll send your statements directly to your advisor so your planning conversations start from the same page.
