At nine years old- I declared to my father that I was done being treated like a child. His response was to challenge me to manage our household’s budget the following month: wages, rents, utility bills and grocery shopping. I was to handle it all and prove my work with meticulous records- which I was supposed to fail. Except that I didn’t! Instead I found an aptitude for organizing and optimizing that lead to a challenging career in restaurants and climate-tech start ups where my success was always grounded in an understanding and an ability to utilize bookkeeping to make crucial business decisions.
No amount of success, however, can protect us from the harsh reality of business and after losing my job in a corporate reduction in force, I realized that my skills were sorely needed supporting small businesses and families just like mine.

Early in my college career, I had an accounting professor that taught me “If you want to do accounting, you cannot just pass this course-you must get everything right-including the extra credit! Because that is the heart of accounting.” I took that teacher’s challenge to heart and got 100% on all my accounting classes. I spent some career time as an Associate Financial Representative and learned that while I still had a passion for all things finance and numbers- sales was not my home.
The next step in my journey brought me home as a stay at home caregiver to my disabled grandmother and two beautiful young sons. It is here that I realized growth in myself and a desire to join my wife in building a business where we can serve others in our community and help build a stronger middle class so that my children can access the same freedoms I value so greatly.
